GAIL (India) Limited – Solar Power Investment Update
GAIL (India) Limited has announced a major investment of ₹3800 crore to develop 700 MW solar power projects across Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s renewable energy capacity and achieving long-term sustainability goals.
Project Details:
- Total Capacity: 700 MW Solar Power
- Total Investment: ₹3800 Crore
Uttar Pradesh Project:
- Capacity: 600 MW Solar Power + 550 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- Location: TUSCO Solar Park Jhansi
- Purpose: To meet captive energy requirements of GAIL’s petrochemical plant at Pata (Auraiya district)
Maharashtra Project:
- Capacity: 100 MW Solar Power + 22 MWh BESS
- Location: Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar
- Purpose: To support captive requirements of GAIL’s PDH-PP plant at Usar (Raigad district)
Key Highlights:
- Integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for efficient power utilization
- Ensures round-the-clock renewable energy availability
- Helps overcome solar power intermittency challenges
Strategic Impact:
- GAIL’s renewable capacity will increase to over 1000 MW from the current 147 MW
- Supports India’s energy transition and net-zero targets
- Strengthens GAIL’s position as a diversified energy company
